Why do I draw in charcoal?

Charcoal is a technique of matter, light and gesture. It is worked directly on the paper, dragging, blending and lifting the pigment to build different intensities and shades. Working without color, all attention concentrates on the light, the shadow and the expressiveness of each stroke.

It is the technique of Liminal, a series that explores the feminine instant through gestures and strokes that build a dialogue between sweetness, desire and intensity. The works are made on 300 gram Canson cardstock, whose texture allows working the charcoal with depth and precision.

With its direct language and graphic presence, charcoal can fit especially well in spaces looking for a sober, expressive and timeless piece. It is also an especially suitable technique for commissioned portraits, since it allows working directly and without the drying times of other techniques.
